This is our home away from home. Our camp site as seen from a bird's vision. (Looking down from HAtipaon, Mossurie.) Heaven....Indeed!!!
A "dream" (camp) come true..... as the green horns call it. I am referring to the western command's Greenhorn Adventure
Camp-2001 which was organized for us and began on the 28th of March 2001. I felt very deeply about the camp and so wanted
to share some of my thoughts with you all.
ON 26th morning, we all started from Jallunder for D'doon. We all were
sitting in the bus like dodos (who were going away from their LUXURIOUS homes). Within 20 minutes all of us started having
stomach aches, which were in fact the curiosity, to know each other. That was the beginning. All of us introduced ourselves.....little
did we know that we would go back having strong bonds of friendship between us. On our way, we played a lot of games one of
them which was 'Damsiraz' I had never quite played that game before at least not in the way we did on our way. I never knew
that we were all unrivalled champs of the game (I am sure our opponents would have a different opinion). That day....we cheated
the hell out of ourselves. But it was superb experience. We were Sooo obvious in our cheating but our opponents never noticed
it. That very moment I felt that we are all heading towards to a lot of fun and enjoyment. And there would be something special
about the whole thing.
WE finally reached D'doon after a looong journey of about 9 hours. Although, we did not
feel the torture of the journey. Then we were briefed about the camp and made to go and have the dinner. After the good nights,
we all went back to our barracks. There, me along with some of my new friends, we decided to some mischievous work in the
night. We decided upon the targets for the mission. And we were ready with our toothpastes in our hands. The whole night we
were just laughing and giggling ourselves to glory. We did not sleep the whole night and am sure no body else did too. Everyone
had something or the other planned. One thing that I remember, distinctively, of that night is that one guy in our barrack
got up at 2 A.M. in the morning, packed his stuff and then started doing crunches, then the sit ups and then came the Push
ups. All of us were amused to see this happening. When asked what the matter was....we got no answer. Then suddenly, Mr. Superman
of ours acquired a very funny looking Yoga asan, all of US at once bounced at our bags and were, in an instant ready, with
our Cameras to click our selves a souvenir. But we were too late....our friend decided to call it a day and went out for the
last stroll of the day. We all Laughed till all of us got new Ab muscles and also burnet them back. ( ha ha ha....it was gr8)
Next morning, We were all set to start for our destination- Hatipaon, Mossurie. When we reached at the top, to our
camp site, ....Did we feel that our prays had been answered or what? It was a lovely morning with cool breeze blowing the
clouds. We were surrounded by mountains from all sides. Beautiful flags, lots of new pwople....great looking tents...It was
perFECT!
After some time, the Greenhorns' activities started and kept us busy for 10 day. In those 10 days, we
had the time of our lives. We met new people, made new friends, explored new places and did lots of other stuff. We all really
enjoyed our stay.
ONe thing that just come to my mind is our first night there. I had not imagined that it could
get cold there. BUT it did.... On top of that, it started pouring cats and dogs out side. Then our tents started dripping....when
that wasn't enough, Our tents got up-rooted from a few places. We had to fight all night to have a quite and relaxing sleep
after the long day of work and fun. And when we did find some Peace and went off to sleep.....the Trumpet blew loud....as
loud as it could. And the days activity had started again. But all in all, that particular night was one of the best part
of the camp.
Days flew by.... without even whispering a thing in to our ears....and then suddenly, it was time
for us to say 'Bye' to our instructors (who took great care of us and made us feel warm. They not only looked after us but
also had fun with us and at the same time kept us from getting into trouble), all our lovely friends from different parts
of the country and finally to the beautiful surroundings.
In those 10 day, we learned a lot and shared a lot of
things. I am sure, all of us went home with our part of opinions and experiences.....but I am also sure that when we look
back after some time flies by, we would all be filled with a sense of joy and fun which would make us believe that the green
horn days were the best days of our lives. ANd would make us feel real good about ourselves and our childhood days.
Given a chance, I would love to re-live the camp stay and enjoy my self to the fullest ONce again. Lets hope that all
of us meet again sometime, somewhere, someplace.....
Now for all the other green horns, I request you all to share any of your experiences with me and the other campers. Feel
free to email me and send me your thoughts. I would put them up on this site so that your thoughts can reach others as well.
Below, I have some of the snaps of the camp. I hope you all have a nice time remembering the camp by looking at them. (Click
